Save the Swordfish
According to Hallowell’s (2001) article “Save the Swordfish,” swordfish is endangered. There are two conservation groups that want to save the swordfish. These groups invite many chefs to join a meeting. They were given a suggestion to stop serving swordfish. At least 25 chefs gave their word to stop severing swordfish this year. And some of them will print the information which is about the activity on their menus. The number of swordfish has become smaller and smaller because of overfishing. The fishermen change of their ways to catch swordfish which resulted in swordfish and other marine animals approaching extinction. Consequently, the alliance wants other big chain restaurants to join them to procure their goal.
It is hard to prevent an economical species to be caught. But we can do our best to help them to prevent extinction, especially swordfish. Activity such as that of the alliance in the article is a good way to save swordfish. We still need to figure out other effective ways to help endangered animals.
Eating habits are hard to be changed. People have eaten swordfish for a long time. It may be difficult to ask people not to eat swordfish. But we can give them a suggestion to eat the other kind of fish replacing swordfish. Fish such as tuna can be bred recently. If we reduce the eating of swordfish, the amount will increase again.
The environmental education is very important. Actually, most people who have eaten swordfish didn’t know the swordfish was endangered. So, letting people know this kind of information is our responsibility. Then more and more people will stop eating swordfish. And our children can learn something since they are in the school life.
To legislate is the most important and effective way to save swordfish. The government can stop overfishing by law. Even all governments of the world can work on it together. The only problem is politics. Many countries don’t want to make laws to stop fishing the swordfish because their need of economic. If these countries are not selfish, saving swordfish will be easy.
In conclusion, saving the swordfish is very important. If swordfish is extinct, the marine life will be influenced. Consequently, we must to take many activities to save it. What we can do by ourselves is to stop eating them and don’t produce pollution to pollute the ocean. In the near future, we can enjoy the swordfish meals again.

My girlfriend
I met my girl friend in the university. She was my classmate at the first year but she trans to other school. She is a cute girl. I started to date with her one year later. She studied in the north Taiwan but I was in the middle Taiwan. It is a long-distance dating. It's hard to keep the relationship. Sometime we argue about my female friends and I go home late. Those arguments cause by long-distance. However, we already keep the relationship 5 years. Fortunately, we can used to the long-distance between US and Taiwan. I hope she can come to American with me after graduating from graduate school. But she does not want to come with me. So, there are still many things we should work hard solve together. Maybe we will get marry next year when I go bake to Taiwan. I am happy that I have such a good girl friend. I will be tender and nice to her forever.

Carbondale
Ilike nature so I chose to study in Carbondale. I live in the second biggest city of Taiwan. It is a modern city where there is no natural environment anymore. So I like to go to national parks in my free time. But now, I am in nature! There are lots of forests and wildlife in Carbondale. Fortunately, I live in Southern Hills, which is located in the middle of a small forest. Sometimes, I can see some wildlife in front of my door such as deer, raccoon and squirrels. It never happened in my hometown. That is why I really loke the natural and beautiful city, Carbondale

Global Warming Causes Extinction of Animals
According to Hirsch’s article “Animals ‘hit by global warming,’” there is a meeting about saving migration animals especially migration birds. First, global warming is getting worse and the climate is already changing. Many kinds of animals have to change their habitats because these environmental changes. For example, the temperature of ocean becomes higher. The plankton will disappear or move to other areas. This situation influences the food web. Second, animals can’t adapt to the changing climate because the change is too far and too fast. In the report, it also said people should find some new ways that can help animals to adapt to it.
Helping animals to adapt the changing climate is a hard and great work. Many scientists want to find out some ways to slow down the climatic change and the extinction of animals. But we don’t know whether it is effective or not yet.
First, pollutions effect environment greatly. Climatic change in the natural way is good for evolution. But climate changes so fast that the whole ecosystem can’t adapt to it. Human beings produce more and more pollution, dioxide and monoxide that can destroy our environment. For instance, the greenhouse effect and global warming is the most harmful situation caused by waste air. Scientists want to stop it. But the temperature is still rising and lives are still dying.
Second, environmental protection and economic growth seem not able to be balanced. People of the third world countries must cut trees and hunt wildlife to support their lives. These countries usually cut the rainforests to plant crops and export woods. These activities cause environment and climate to be changed. The complicated problem is not easy to solve by only scientists. Consequently, the developing countries must to help those poor countries to solve economic problems.
Third, the habitats of animals are not easy to be changed. If scientists want to help animals to move or help them to get new kinds of food, it will be difficult. Probably animals will die in these man-made ways. People said, “Lives will find the way out.” Maybe we don’t need to change many things. The animals will change their habitats to adapt to new conditions.
In conclusion, we can’t only help animals but also have to find out the causes which make these problems. Some people try to help animals or plants by their ways. On the other hand, other people keep harming the environment. It seems to waste money and time. Consequently, everyone should practice environmental protection anytime in the daily life. And find out some ways to help animals to adapt to new conditions. We also need to do something that can balance economic and environmental protection. Finally, we can do something effectively to save animals and the earth.

A Potluck
I was bored during the break. So my friend invited me to join a potluck at a professor's home. It's a taiwanese party. I made a side dish named "tea eggs" which is a famous snack in Taiwan. Unfortunately, there was no main dish. Everyone though the same thing that should not make too much because there would be 14 dishes, so everyone brough the side dishes, soft drink, cookies or fruits. But we still had a good time. We watched movie, played mahjong and chated in different groups. I have many experiences about potluck but it was never happened. According to this experience, I will ask other people what will they bring first. Next weekend, I will go to another potluck in my American friend's home. It is a good chance to learn English in talking. I like to go to a party like this.

Travel
I like to travel by car. This is not only the best way to travel alone, but also a good way to travel with my family or friends. There are many advantages in traveling by car. For instance, I like to drive alone and almost without target. I just want to go out of the big city and enjoy nature. If I see a beautiful view or a special temple, I can stop to see those anytime. By this way, I should not worry about whether I could take the train or plane on time. I like to be the owner of time, and don’t want to be controlled by time, especially when I want to flee the busy big city. Consequentially, I think traveling by car is the best way.
